It is currently January and this means it is pretty cold out and nothing is growing. We did plant some garlic, which should be ready to harvest in about July, but other than that, our garden is bare.

🪏 However, this is when the work begins. We use this time to make repairs to our garden beds, clean up debris, and do other basic maintenance that is easier to do when the grass isn’t growing and the temperatures are cold.

We’ve aimed to make our garden as sustainable as possible. This means we get a lot of things via Freecycle and local buy-nothing groups. And also some dumpster diving when the mood strikes.

By April we will start planting seedlings and mapping out our strategy for the upcoming season. Usually by May we are eating some things from the garden, such as lettuce and radishes.

Very excited to see what the 2026 vegetable garden brings us.
