Pckt.blog features I love (and ones I'd like to see added)

Before I started using pckt.blog to make this site, I tried a few “personal blogging” options.

What I wanted/need: A lightweight, personal blogging platform for thoughts too long for social media and photos. Needed a platform that played nicely with mobile and offered a bit of customization to make things look pretty.

What I tried: I used Micro.blog for a bit, but I like sharing photos and sharing photos on Micro.blog is a clunky experience. I used Obsidian Publish for some time, and I really liked blogging directly from Obsidian. However, the result felt more like a collection of notes than a blog, and Obsidian Public requires a lot of fiddling to get your site looking a certain way. Leaflet.pub is neat, but the block-based editor didn't work well on mobile for me.

What I use: Well, obviously, I use pckt.blog, which I picked for a few reasons. First, the editor works great as a mobile web app. Second, I like how Pckt handles photos; I can easily insert single photos or create a whole gallery, and Pckt also offers generous storage limits on their paid plan. The developers have also been responsive and are clearly dedicated to maintaining and improving this platform (like when I asked for Markdown-styled hyperlinks). Finally, I LOVE LOVE LOVE the way Pckt implemented blog customization; the preset color themes are gorgeous, and the ability to customize your own them is, as far as I'm concerned, a near perfect implementation. What is best is that it customized themes seamlessly change from light to dark mode using the appropriate contrast and color palette for visibility.

However, there are a few features I'd really love to see added to Pckt!

  • Highlighting or other options for styling or coloring text.
  • Ability to use own domain (coming soon!)
  • Any additional customization options for laying out pages or organizing content.
